Ok I just finished a starter install on my 94 ranger 2.3 5 speed. When I purchased this truck it was around $13,000 dollars, it had 25K miles. A used toyota in the same options was about $17,000.
I gave this truck to my son when he graduated high school it had 120K then and put on 80K HARD MILES.
So when someone tells me about toyota quality I tell THEM about FORD QUALITY. As of today it has over 200K MILES, One timing belt, One water Pump, Two clutch packs, two Clutch slave cylinder and One starter. I tuned her up at 100K and at 180K. She is not as quick as she used to be but she can still get around in the mountains of colorado.
THIS is why I am on my 3rd Ranger 1988, 1994 and 1998 and cant weight for the Redesigned Ranger
I agree completely I have had two Rangers. Also have had just as good results with my F series trucks and Tbird and Cougars. My 1965 F100 is at about 300K and still goes strong. I would like to see any origanal Toyota 40 years old still going stong and having any origanal sheet metal left.

Congrats! I hope to do as well as you. I think I'm off to a good start. My new, (last year -- 2004) Ranger XLT is a 2.3L 'Duratec' with auto A/C, Power - windows, mirrors, locks, cruise, and chrome package ran me a little over $12k.
As of today I have racked up a total of 5K miles. At this rate, if I'm as lucky as you it will last 'me' a life time.
i've got two rangers myself. both of them 2000's. one has 83000mi and the other has 44000mi. one is a black off-road 4x4 ext. cab with a 3" lift and 33" tires and some other light mods, the other is a 2wd white regular cab that is my wifes. i'll be taking pics soon so you guys can see what i'm so proud of. i don't by foreign CRAP and i never will!!! go FORD and go USA!!!
Ive got a 91 with the old 2.3 5 speed with 306,000 miles on er. Got er for 2 grand back in 97 with 120,000 on it. Dad drove it until I turned 16 almost 2 years ago, and I got it with 250,000 on it. Shes old and tired, but still keeps right on kickin. You cant kill that engine...
Yes! this makes me feel really good about the '05 2.3 5-speed ranger I just got I was hoping it would run forever. The place I worked this summer had a '96 2.3 5-speed with 160k of the hardest miles around, and all my boss had to do to that was replace the serpitine belt (got it with 100k so clutch was already replaced I think). I'm relived that you guys say that is a very reliable truck, because on a college students salary, if that truck broke down, I could fix it but I would be walking a while. I also have an '85 F-250 with an 300 I-6 and you know that is a very reliable truck also
My brother-in-law owns a '94 Ranger 4-banger he bought when it was a few years old, and it's got a little over 200K on it right now. He's not much of a "car guy" and there's no real emotional attachment to the truck on his part, so it has taken a pretty good beating over the years. Regular Jiffy lube oil changes and the occasional wear items (tuneup at 140K+, brakes, an alternator, clutch, timing belt, IIRC) all done by a local mechanic, and that's about it. That truck is is still going strong, serving it's master well.
When we got our ranger it was well taken care of, and then went downhill as we got it lol. Dad put over 600 miles a week on it, and then when I got it, I drove er hard. Since I've been driving it, I've had to replace a belt, and the clutch (which still had the original one in it at 250,000. I finally replaced the spark plugs at 280,000 or so (all 8 of em lol). Went through one alternator, still has a 7 year old napa gold battery in er, which when it was replaced we replaced the starter, cables, sylenoid and ignition switch (just for shoots and giggles.) And then the DIS pack got wet evidentally and the inside of it got corroded, so I had to replace it with one from the junk yard! Runs great now
