Timing Mark

Which is the timing mark on the above picture? I have always timed this truck by ear, and I am having troubles with it, and need to do an "acturate" timing check on it...

First I would get the flywheel all cleaned up nice, so you can read all the markings on it. It should show TDC and grads of 5*. You would use the pointer on the block to reference the degree markings on the flywheel. The stock base timing with the SPOUT out is 10* BTDC.

The truck should be warmed up first......then remove the SPOUT plug/connector. Loosen the dizzy retainer bolt. Connect the timing light to cyl#1, and set to 10*BTDC . re-tighten the dizzy, and recheck the timing.

Some guys here who have done a bit of engine mods set the timing to 13* or even 14* BTDC
