Having finished the lower intake gaskets not too long ago, I thought I would get a break. Now it's the clutch. Actually it's not the clutch, it's the slave cylinder,(release cylinder). It's leaking brake fluid, and not working properly, and sometimes when you push the clutch in, the truck keeps going like you never pushed it, rrequiring me to knock it out of gear. Someone at Ford, in their infinite wisdom, decided to put that cylinder inside the bellhousing. Now the tranny has to come out, and if I'm going in there, I'm gonna replace it ALL. I'm gonna try it myself, (I think) and I will keep everyone posted. BTW, anyone got the link to that short throw shifter that has been talked about here, may as well upgrade while I'm working, right?
Bummer.
Believe it or not, that is one reason I got rid of the 2000 (even though I do regret it a little!).
I was pushing 170,000 miles and knew a clutch was in the offing. Since I don't have the time to do it myself, I knew I was facing $1,000 or so to have it all done.
I hate not having that truck.
I like the '05 just fine (for the most part) but the 2000 was like a second skin to me.
Call Mike at the above number to order a short throw shifter.
Trust me, he definately won't mind me posting that number. He works at Texas Motorsports...I order my Ford T-Lock from him...never really had better service.
Brian, you know the deal about hindsight. Thanks for the number 4.2, I'll give him a call. With over 180,000, I can't complain. The truck is running great since the gasket change, and consistently getting 21-22mpg. I love my truck, and now I am curious as to how many miles I can really get out of it before it truly croaks.
Well, I finally finished it up. It's quite a job, and I recommend if you can afford it, that you pay someone to do it. It runs great, and the old disc looks just like the new one, not slick, or worn in the least. It's as thick as the new one. I thought it was great considering that it has over 180,000 miles. This job is not for the weak of heart, but if you got the tools and the place, and a good friend to help you wrestle the trans in and out, go for it.
I hear ya. I've been driving my company vehicle while I was working on my truck, and it's a ......oh well I may as well say it, it's a chevy. I know, I feel so dirty, like I've cheated or something. To make matters worse, I was in Arkansas this past week for four days, and my rental was a chevy too. Keep this up and Brian's gonna revoke my membership.
