Hey all Bronco drivers, long time no see! It's summertime, and I ride my Harley a lot - but the main reason is that I never have any problems with my Bronco! 134K and going strong, everything works and the truck rides and drives like a new one. I hope your Broncos are doing as well. And sorry to anybody who had asked me to look for parts in the boneyard - I took a graveyard shift job shortly after that and stopped going to boneyards in the daytime. I then fell ill and left the job. I am better now but still have not been to any junkyards recently.
I just bought a NavMate navigation system to install in my 1990 Bronco XLT 5.8 E4OD. The installation looks fairly straightforward - I only have to make five connections in the truck (12V on, 12V switched, ground, backup sensor, and the VSS). All should be easy but I do not know where to tap into the VSS.
So, I need to know where the VSS sensor or wire is and where I should tap into it. I also need to know if it is a square wave VSS or a sine wave VSS. I have a factory wiring diagram for my truck so that will help, but I would like to hear from anyone who is familiar with it and has done this type of thing and has any tips about where I should tap in. I worry about tapping into parts that affect the computer so I want to be sure that I do it properly.
Also, my speedo is off because of tire size. It's not bad as I only have 31's, but it is about 8 percent off. It is a mechanical odo and not digital computer type. Will this affect the VSS or the nav system? Ihave been wanting to get the speedo calibrated for a long time, I'm thinking that this might be the time to do it so this might be a moot point anyway.
Also, what would the easiest way to tap into the reverse sensor? It's the same wire as for the reverse light, right? Without going all the way back to the taillight, where is the easiest place to tap in, preferably somewhere near the dash or front of the truck?
if you have the E4OD, the VSS should mounted on the top of the rear axle. You can trace the wires (two of them i think) all the way back to where ever you want to tap into it. Now i'm a little rusty on my electical theory, but i think it has to be a square wave. Only AC makes a sine wave and the truck is DC........I'll check into this, but i;m pretty sure i'm right
OK I gotcha. I know where that connector is. I can trace it back and connect to it somewhere. If you can check into it and find out if it is a square or sine wave that would be great. I will also do some research, now that I know what and where it is. I have the factory wiring diagram and can trace the wire back but it's still sometimes hard to tell exactly where it comes out on the truck. If anyone knows of a place where the wire is easily accessible, preferably inside the truck but somewhere under the hood would be ok too, please post.
