so i didnt go with black for a frame color. i know black looks good, but as i said before i like to be different. and i am painting the body blue so i thought silver will be a badass color for the frame. so i got some sandblasting done on the frame tonight. but i had to stop because the sandblaster broke. the bad part is, it is brand new lol. but here are some before during and after pictures. i got some of the frame done and wanted to test the color to see how it would look. so thats why you see silver at the end of the frame rail. i am going to blast that again and repaint it. lemme know what you think.
before:
if you are going to rip on me, dont rip on me too bad.....i have never attempted anything like this before. i am still a youngin' and have alot of learning to do yet, but i figured i gotta start somewhere.
If you are going to all that trouble, may as well paint it a contrasting colour. I think the red on the shackle looks good. Or lime green, pink, yeller, anything like that. Unless you are going for a classy look, then the dark colours are the way to go. Myself, I've never done anything classy in my life.
definately not going for classy at all. maybe i would go for a classy look if i had mounds and mounds of money to sink into it. i am liking the lime green or yellow.
I would go with a silver paint and if not stick with the black. As for the type of paint, Polyurethane/Epoxy paint is the way to go for durability, I would also Gravel guard before painting.
Just my 2 cents
Use a por15, then paint which resembles with Ford Late Engine model color Blue. Paint other parts black, like leaf springs radius arm, leaf spring brackets, paint front and rear axle blue. some type of paint scheme like that.
Make sure you blast and paint the inner parts of the rails as well.. I mean if your gonna go through the hassle of blasting it... might as well do it right.... NOTHING WORSE than looking at a painted chassis... and seeing that the owner didnt go the distance and do it right...
Be carefull of the " while Im at it's " ... They can be the death of ya... and slow the
whole process down to a snails crawl...
Im in the middle of a resto on my 78 super cab 4x4... and the truck is coming together nicely... but its coming together so nice.... that when I pull out an part to put it on the truck ... I end up having to toss the part in my blast cabinet to make the part as nice as the rest of the parts on the truck ... So it all adds up to more time on the resto project of " While Im At It!!!!!! "
Good luck ...
Ps... I see you are using a pressure blaster... how long did it take you to do that small section that you did?? Just curious.... Becasue I send my frames out to have them done... less mess...
It cost me all of $150 to have my frame blasted... seemed like a fair price seeing that I wasnt the one that was gonna be picking sand out of my hair for the next week... lol...
my mask doesnt let sand get in my hair, and i am one that likes to be able to say i did ALL of the work MYSELF. not ohh i had so and so over here blast my frame for me. i dunno maybe i am just a loser like that.
but i did finish the outside of one framerail tonight. i stuck with the silver. here is a before and after picture.
i know it isnt done yet, but you get the point of what it is going to look like. i guess i just like knowing i did every ounce of work on this truck myself. granted, it may take longer......but i think i will have alot more self gratification.
I hear ya tank.. Ive blasted my own frames in the past.... I just prefer the quicker method...Other than having my frames blasted... I do all the rest of the work my myself... blast all the crossmember, brackets and what have you on my own ... in my blast cabinet... But hey Your frame is really starting to look good... Way to go... Dont forget to blast the inner rails of the frame as well.. Good luck and have fun....
Hey man, THat silver looks real good.
Im at the same point as you (well a little behind actually)
Tryin to decide what colour to paint my frame, And it hink you just made my decision for me, And i also had the plan of painting hte body blue or black, not sure yet. Same truck too, short box (mines 78)
And I also like doing everything myself, but with work evryday and living in a townhouse where Im not allowed doing any work it makes it kinda hard, I got a quote for sandblasting my frame and stuff (150ish cdn)
Anyway , Looks good man,
Post some more pics.
cheers
