I was just looking at the competition of the F-350....Does Ford measure or have a different definition of what payload is compared to Dodge? Payload is the weight you can place in the bed/ truck right? The Long bed 'Crew' cab 3500 laramie doesn't have a payload cap. of even 3,000 lbs. Maybe it was a misprint? Last time i checked the F-350 specs, they said that the F-350's payload rating was 5,200 lbs..4X4 CC DRW 6l 6spd. Maybe that is ford's payload rating for an xl or something....how much more really do the king ranch outfits weigh?!?! can't be more than 2,000 lbs. Seriously, the 3500 is lacking BIG time in payload if i am reading correctly. Im not putting dodge down at all, I'm just saying, why are they so low when the frame is hydroformed and their website touts it as the strongest pickup?? Also, the best turning circle i found for the biggest 350 was 56 feet, and 50.6 for the Dodge. Does it really still take over 50 ft to turn it around?Just thought I'd throw in some questions...
the payload is the gvwr minus the curb weight.then add in fluid, people and cargo. engine size also plays a part the ford f-350 with 5.4 has a higher payload than the 6.0 because the 5.4 weighs less.
Still quite amazing that the super duty...which is on a 'dated' chassis can still haul more than its competitors despite their frames being more recent....
since ford390gashog said the SD with a 5.4 has a higher payload than an SD with a 6.0 because it is lighter, do you think that means the dodge has a lower payload because the cummins weighs more than the 6.0? I know the cummins weighs somewhere around 1200 lbs.
just checked the cummins is 962lbs and the psd is 1,062.
Curious, do you have a link to that?
I was always of the understanding that the Cummins did weigh around 1200lbs wet, and the PSD weighed a little over 1000 wet.

Yes the Superduty is the most up to date truck on the market today. Chevy an Dodge are old desighns. Same same o. I still dont se what people see in these Dodges. The build quality is terrible. The sheetmetal is so thin. The interior is flimsy. If you pay less you get less simple fact. The cummins hardly makesup for a poor excuse for a truck. A ford guy going to a Dodge. Whew thats like going from a great truck to a disastrous truck.
You must be comparing the F350 DRW with a Ram 3500SRW. Ford's upgraded chassis and new variable GVWR packages are great. This is what gives Ford the advantage in payload, but still - not that much (2500lbs) advantage. A DRW Ram will have a payload between 4400 and 5200lbs depending on configuration, whereas Ford DRW payloads can be between 5300 and 5800lbs, again - depending upon configuration.
11.50 Axle for Dual-Rear-Wheel Vehicles...... Payload Capacity - Maximum [lb]...2760lbs....that is specs for a Dodge 3500 with DRW as standard equip according to their website...the only 3500 i can config w.o DRW is to make the bed short and have a quad cab....
