OK guys, I apologize for the "uninformed" comment. I came here to offer my 35 years experience repairing, modifying and re-engineering complete powertrains foreign and domestic to OEM as well as Performance specifications, including computer modifications (not just programming, but circuit design changes and repair). I did not come here to brag, say I'm better than you, or give you my resume, or push my knowledge on others. I came here to help...not to get into pissing matches with "armchair" mechanics, or get flamed by other truck owners/drivers. I love my work, I also love sharing my knowledge just as much as learning new things from others.
Someone mentioned "differences in opinions". That's normal, but the time it would take me to assemble and publish facts that even a dummy could understand on this forum just to prove my "opinions" (technical help and data) is a true waste of my time and resources. And, by the content of the posts here, it's very easy to determine the caliber of people here. So, If I were to help, then I would be trapped into a boatload of time trying to educate ignorant people for free. I'm not that desperate to help others.
You did not really "scare" me off, but discouraged me from sharing what I know with this forum, especially after reading the following posts. Made me crack up and realize that ignorance is truly bliss. The little time I have to "Help" others should not be spent responding to non-technical posts, flames, ignorant comments, or defending my knowledge.
That being said, you guys have a good handle on your trucks, how they work, what's best for them and so-on. Oh, and the continual short 2 mile (or even 5 mile) trips in a diesel OR gas really doesn't hurt a thing, and you wont be replacing any hard parts on your trucks at all. Keep up the good maintenance and driving techniques. Your trucks will give you the same back.
Take care, enjoy your forum, have fun responding to this. I wont be seeing anymore email notifications from ford-trucks.com.
Time to get to work....
Old School? Carbon in your powerstroke doesnt exist anymore? Or how about the fuel impurities? the inpurities in fuel today exceed what they were 20 years ago, regardless of the "improved" refining processes, because you have no control over the transport tankers, nor the fuel station tanks, or how often they change their filters. ATF is completely advisable due to its unique lubrication properties, as well as what it does in your combustion chamber. The advantages are numerous, and there are no disadvantages to adding it to your fuel. your so called "additives" are nothing but hype and they sell it cause ignorant people like you will buy it. You offer no facts to back up your claims...and I am so VERY tired of this forum I want to puke and go shower to get your ignorant stink off me. This TRULY my last post. Keep it all.....

Just wanted to say thank you to all of you uninformed, dumb armchair mechanics. Keep up the good work! ronaldjmorgan: Don't you have to fly back to France or something?
Haha im glad my thread started that for ya Kw, but really i hate when people get on here and say about how bad this site is, im just thinkin u gotta be jokin me...but thanks for yalls input. Its not like i have a choice i gotta run it a few miles a day to go to school, and well ill just try to take as best care of my truck as possible...unplug the EGR and diesel kleen. what i dont understand is how is diesel kleen hype?
"Any red dye in a tank of fuel is detectable by the sampler the DOT uses, even when diluted by a large quantity of undyed fuel. As little as 1/2 qt of ATF in a tank of fuel will be detected as untaxed fuel and can cause a major headache for the driver."
"A known practice especially amongst truckers is the adding of Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) to diesel fuel. According to tests performed by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) and the International Standards Organization (ISO) the lubrication benefit from ATF is very slight. The effects and consequential damage that could result from the use of ATF in diesel fuel has not been determined. The addition of ATF in diesel fuel also changes the chemical make-up of the diesel fuel which could result in penalties for use of a NON-EPA approved fuel. ATF is not an additive and it's use could result in costly repairs and/or fines, a more proven and effective conditioner should be used when treating diesel fuel..... More on this to come in the next few months."
I'm surprised I am even able to start my engine given the level of my ignorance. Let's see what 2 minutes of research turned up on using ATF. Looks like ronaldjmorgen's advice is very sound, and there is no room for disagreement. There I go being ignorant again.
Wait so does this mean i am an ignorant pre-med student...wow i hope that Scalpel doesnt slip. O well if it does ill just use some transmission fluid to revieve him
