Hello everyone. I need a little help. I have a 2003 Ford Ranger Edge 4x4, 4.0 V6. My question for you is. Does this have a governor on it and if so where is it and how do i disable it????? I could be wrong about it being a governor, but what i am trying to do is this. My engine automatically shuts off at about 90-92mph and i don't know why. So i want to stop it. Any help would be appreciated.
Actually considering the speed limits and the fact that a Ranger pickup truck is hardly a sports car, that 90 MPH isn't all that bad of an idea. Perhaps add a sports car your fleet for higher speeds?

The govenor (programmed into your PCM) is doing it's job. Unless you are planning some better tires and some suspension changes, leave it alone ..... the life you save might be mine.

The only reason i want it done is this is going to be my off duty police vehicle for the Phoenix Police Department. So in a case of high speed pursuit it might be a good thing to have just so they don't get away before i can radio in for assistance. So it is not a reason of i am a speeding maniac and want it to joy ride around. So by doing this i might actually me saving your life from someone else.
One of the reasons Ford limits speed is liability to their company. There was a case sometime ago where a person was fleeing the cops in an Explorer, got into an accident and got injured, sued FoMoCo, and actually won money in court. Such a fine mentality jurors have nowdays; financially reward a guy for actions like this .

I don't know about the Phoenix Police, but here they don't want off duty police involved in high speed persuits, for some very good reasons.

id like to see what the person is driving if u can keep up with them in a ranger. by the time u hit 90 they will be a mile away.... as a cop u should know this, and as a regular citizen, i dont

You've never seen me drive my Ranger. I do 80 on my daily commute, and from someone whose driven everything from beat-up 4-bangers to V-8s, it's 40% equipment, and 60% skill. I leave Beemers, rice-rockets, and even Mustangs in the dust on a regular basis.
don't need to more than 90mph in less your racing it on a track if your off duty and in your personal transportation and get in to an accadent while chacing somebody the police will not reimberce you for it and maybe put you on adminastrative leave if you searosly injure somebody including the culpret
I asked a ford mechanic about it and he told me that when they hook it up to their computer, they can tell how many times you've hit the limiter. That seemed like an odd piece of info they would want.
