Let's see, the computer senses a signal every time the magnet embedded in the ring gear passes by the vehicle speed sensor. It then calcuates based on your gear ratio and tire size how many volts to send to the servo which moves your speedometer needle.
Are you seriously going to tell us that you can fry part of (i.e. the speed limiter) the brain in your computer by running the magnet past the sensor in the other direction? As much as I'd like to see this proven, I'd hate to have one of the poor naive' kids here flip his truck 3 times because he was trying to do 50 in reverse in a parking lot. Maybe it works on imports.....
By the way, what the heck is a "t dot?"

I am not promoting it!!!!!! simply restating what i have been told by one crazy fellow i work with and without going into detail about what his division actually entails in the g.t.a region you would be amazed at what some people will do with their vehicles to get extra speed and trying to get that extra 10 to 15 km's per hr espescially on the 1/4 mile now i myself would never do anything to my ride that involves craziness but i am simply repeating what i have been told and once again not promoting it...........now if you wanna be straight forward and get into it why don't you tell all the crazy street racers out there that what they are doing to there rides are wrong and tell them to there face because i guarantee it wont be pretty
Hey, I know that I'm normally a very safe driver, but I do drive fast. On the interstate I go 90+ though there is hardly ever any need for it. I'm very confident in my own driving. I don't see a need for going faster than the governor, but it's not that big of a deal. Just make sure you do it safely. I.e. DO NOT go 85 in a 30, lmao, I raced a buddy of mine with a 4.0L Explorer and we were going 85 in a 30. It's a very bad idea, along with passing people in a residential part of town going 85mph. It's occasionally fun.
You've never seen me drive my Ranger. I do 80 on my daily commute, and from someone whose driven everything from beat-up 4-bangers to V-8s, it's 40% equipment, and 60% skill. I leave Beemers, rice-rockets, and even Mustangs in the dust on a regular basis.
NOT the kind of poerson I want behind the wheel in a High Speed Pursuit, in an unmarked truck in Phoenix Metro traffic on a Friday afternoon rush or even at midnight.
There are enough overzealous law enforcemnt folks on the job as it is. I've been in the front seat during several pursuits with Officers that drove like they stole it vs the ones that understand the risk and use the radio/air assets as intended and let the perp make the mistake.
From the perspective of owning and driving Rangers for 6 years in both fleet and private ownership, I can attest to its instability at high speeds dispite suspension mods -beefy sway bars (25MM), lowering springs/shackles, etc). If you want to have a personal vehicle that can be regarded as a driveable pursuit vehicle-buy a late 90's BMW M5 or a Subary WRX or a Fox body Mustang and build it into what you want.
The life you save will probably be one of use as well as yourself, and your family will thank you every day you come home alive.
im not one to argue a whole lot, but I dont thinkk anything really needs to be said about the reverse thing. I mean if someone actually DOES try it, whew...'nuf said.
This is coming from the people who tell us that strobes, neon lights, BIG wings, and systems will get you down the track faster. There might be that ONE car that the govenor quit on and this is what got the credit. Driving a ranger in reverse as fast as you can is just stupid, no matter what the reason is.
I'm not sure why/how I got quoted for that one. I'm not a cop. I was just making the point that I can outdrive people by being attentive and planning far in advance. If I look a 1/4 mile ahead on the freeway and see a 1978 Honda Civic in the fast lane doing 60 and the right lanes are wide open, I move over then. It's utterly amazing how many people will do 80MPH until they're 1 car length away and then slam on the brakes. It drives my wife nuts because I'm always changing lanes. She just can't get over the fact that there's little painted lines on the road and I'm crossing over them. The fact is, however, that I keep a consistant speed, use less fuel, and save my brakes buy not going nose-to-tail with everyone else and playing "accordion" in traffic.
As for speeding itself, the flow of traffic here is between 70 and 80 when not congested (then it's 20).

Wow, I get the feeling that you changed tires or gears without recalibrating the speedo. 3-Grand sounds kinda low for 90MPH. According to the top speed gear indicator I found here: http://www.4wheelparts.com/4wp/ORS/gear_calculator.asp
(set redline RPM to 3000 and tire diameter to 27" -standard size-)
the max you could possible be doing with 3.08:1 gears at 3000 RPM is a whopping 78MPH. Multiply that by 1.1 (the difference between 5th and 4th) and you're all the way up to 85.8MPH, hardly enough to hit the limiter. Heck, I hit 85 on my commute sometimes, and I've yet to hit my limiter (I really need to find some open road w/o traffic ).
If he changed the tire size without recalibrating the speedo, the speedo would read the MPH that would corresponds with the RPM that was with the original tire size. Getting bigger tires w/o changing the calibration would yield false readings. For example: Someone with a 4x4 put 35" tires on their Ranger, their speedo would read slower than what they were actually going. However, recalibrating the speedo with larger tires would allow him to have those speeds with 3.ooo RPMs. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
Without recalibrating the speedo, the comp has no way of knowing the tire size has changed. Hence >>> false readings. Maybe his statement as a guesstimation.... It could actually be ~ 85-90 at 3k RPMs. Btw, a debate is healthy as long as it doesn't get hostile.
