I've never had cluster headaches but, I went through a 3-4 month phase of terrible migranes. They were mostly on my left side behind my eye. Most drugs did very little to relieve them. Then one time I was feeling one of them coming on and I slowly started to lose vision in my left eye while driving! It was one of the scariest things I've been through. The vision came back in about an hour.

I knew they were stress related but shorlty after that I went to a massage therapist for pain I had in my neck. She did therapy work on me which is more deep tissue than convetional relaxation massage. She explained to me that I was carrying so much stress in my neck and shoulders that it was triggering my migranes. When she was working on me she pushed on a pressure point, and asked that question you really don't want to hear, "does this hurt?" and of course it did, but it hurt exactly where I'd been having the headaches. Evedently my muscles were so tensed up they where puting pressure on some nerves.

I now can recognize my shoulders and neck getting tense when I'm stressed and am usually able to relax myself. This was about a year ago and since then I've seen her about once a month and have only had one minor migrane in that whole time. It really helped me out. It doesn't hurt to try.

I hope you feel better

I take relpax for the headaches and topomax as a preventative (yeah, right), but nothing beats NyQuil. Headaches are caused by constriction of the blood vessels and a little nyquil takes care of that. It's not something you want to do every day though, right now, I have an ice pack stuck to the side of my head, that works sometimes. Other times, a hot shower on the back of my neck helps. For me, the cure varies from time to time.

i use ice all the time but usually feels like a wet rag cause i get extremely hot. my headaches effect my right side of the head. i losse vison all the time( company hates it cause i have to stop alot but i work for family so they understand). can anyone else trace vains from shoulder to eyeball that becomes very sensitive, sometimes squeezing my neck at the right place will releive some pressure until i feel like im gonna pass out.

oh yeah and that stuff that is illegal help relieve pressure by relaxing me and also helps with the asprin killing my ability to eat. too bad its illegal

I have a bad story for you. We had a friend and coworker named Steve: we noticed that he was always putting a cold soda or metal plate against his forehead or temple for relief. This was an old habit, I must have worked with him for five years, and it seemed he was always doing that. We worked in electronics and had CO2 chambers to bring our products down to temperatures such as -35 degrees. He could cool off a plate in his chamber, then put it against his head to try and ease the pain of his headache.

Then one day Steve was out sick, no big deal, he missed a day once in a while, but rarely. Then, later on, we heard from the boss that Steve was in intensive care at the hospital. The next day we found out he fell in the shower after his night-school Calculus class. His wife found him unconscious and called the ambulance. LOng story short....Steve had an aneurysm, two surgeries and 3 weeks later he passed away, he never came out of his coma, and was only 35 years old.
The doctors said he had a birth defect of some kind, the normal brain has two arteries running up both sides of the head, Steve only had one artery on one side, it was stressed and after 35 years, for some reason that night the artery broke
.
That is one story, don't be upset. #2...My wife used to have killer headaches so bad, she was in agony with tears from her eyes, she would say "please let me die, it hurts so bad" and she wouldn't let me go. I had to massage her head all night as she cried and screamed. I would hold icepacks on her head and do whatever it took to comfort her. It all stopped, I don't remember when, but the headaches just stopped, her diet and lifestyle have always been the same, and I am not sure what caused the headaches. She has been OK for at least 5 years now, pain-free and happy.

For those of you that dont know what these are: It is the same headache everyday usually only effecting 1 side of the head. Sometimes they are horrible and sometime mild but always there. I personally take about 50 B.C. Powders(crushed asprin and caffine) a week. I would let a doctor cut off my left arm to go a week without a headache! How bout you.

P.S. If you drink everyday and have a hangover every morning its not the same. HAHA
Be careful with the BC powers. This is a common cause of chronic salicylate toxicity.

Cluster headaches and migraines, I have had both. Wait until you loose ALL of your vision. The Migraines were cured for the most part with an antihistamine like the Claritin or generic I take daily. My first migraine came after a football practice that I spent a lot of time face down in the grass. I lost my vision just as I came home and scared my mother to death when she realized I was blind. The tunnel vision beforehand and artifacts were scary. I get cluster headaches if I sleep on my left side and it only takes a minute or two to do it. I also get the same cluster headache on the left side about 24-36 hours after I drink anything with caffeine. The solution to those is to sleep only on my back and right side and avoid caffeine.

No over the counter pills would ever touch the cluster headaches or Migraines. The one pain killer that worked without worse side effects was nubain but it is only available by Rx and injection. Morphine and all of those other things did not work.
