A couple questions I have about a 95 winstar I'm going to buy. Just read a similar post from 7-31-05.
1. What can I expect to pay for a longblock from ford in the 3.8L?
2. Is the 4.2L a bolt in replacement for the 3.8?
3. From what I read on the earlier post, does the 3.8 not have a good reputation?
Thanks for the replys. ccc.
Back away, turn around and run very very far from this van.
My parents bought an 96 bout 4 years ago for $3,000, it was our firt minivan
bout a year later the headgaskets went and hydrolocked motor, another $4,000 for an jasper longblock 3.8L engine. bout another year later the tranny went, $1500 to rebuild tranny. So far so good right now, just with reg maintance.
The early 3.8s have issues with headgasket problems, not sure bout the 4.2l engine swap
