Hello Friends, Maybe one of you has experienced this before? My wife
got in her 2001 EXPY 4.6 -Automatic - and the gear lever/shift (on the tree) would not move from "park" into any gear at all. I wiggled it and pushed and pulled- not too hard of course- but still nothing. I haven't jacked it up yet to look at the steering linkage underneath as I thought I'd try here first. Any experience with this would be a great blessing to my wife and kids. They miss their EXPY! Thanks

Reason: would not post?
Check brake lights, brake fuse and circuit, most likely the problem is with the brake interlock that stops the shifter from being moved without you rfoot on the brake.
In the meantime, to free the shift lever from Park:
1. With the igntion switch in the "off" position, turn the ignition key just far enough to disconnect the mechanical steering wheel/shift lever lock, but not so far as to activate the warning lights in the instrument cluster.
2. Shift transmission into Neutral and start engine;
You'll have to repeat this drill everytime you want to shift out of Park, even if the engine is running.
sorry everyone- didn't check e-mail- two fuses blown- I replaced them both... what is weird is the power windows, the windshield wipers and this transmission jam problem all occured at the same time- I am going to - start replacing the relays I guess- I am hoping someone other than the dealer will have them... thanks again.
Did it rain alot recently, look all around under the dash for evidence of a water leak around the windshield. There is one area that will drip into the GEM module that controls alot of the mentioned fuctions.
