Creaking Steering Column help?!
01 Escape with 70k miles
Steering creaks/pops under 15 mph...goes away at speeds above
hear/feel in the steering wheel, but cannot hear when outside vehicle
suspension/lower steering linkage check out, no abnormal wear, leaks, etc...(dealership)
only seems to do it in extreme heat(85 degrees +) dealership could not reproduce sounds (I took it in on a cool day...go figure)
I have isolated the sounds to the column section of the upper steering linkage...
Have driven from NY to SC and back with it so it doesn't seem to be a problem...just yet...any ideas?

I just finished chasing down that steering wheel squeak. At first I thought it was the dash so I removed it completely and drove the car without it. Then I removed the upper and lower plastic cover over the column. I could not definitively find the squeak but was able to stop it by applying pressure to the shifter and inserting a toothpick between outer and inner metal sleeve. I dont know how long it will stay in there...
