Today I was hualing a mini track hoe with my 86 F-350 dually, like I normaly do from time to time, and encountered a horrible poping noise when turning left. Turning right, under load or not is fine. Turning left under load is the only way it happens. I can coast left not under load and be fine. I dropped the trailer and it still does it.
under load = using the gas
not under load = coasting
Any ideas what this could be? Anybody else have this problem.
Okay, didn't wait untill morning. I jacked it up and pulled the axles. Both outer bearings look great. I took the diff cover off and no obvious shavings or anything in the oil. I'm not too sure what I should be looking at in there to be honest. I'm tempted to take the diff out but then what?
Just a recap, it only "pops" when turning left and you have it under load. Any amount of throttle will make it pop and if I push in the clutch it won't do it. Does not do it when turning right.
