Either my truck is trying to get me killed or this is just some very rare occurence. Backing into my friends driveway my master cylider came loose from the fire wall and the break pedal hit the floor, fortunetly i was fast enough to slam down the E-break. but the wierd thing is, i have heard of this before, like a chunk of the fire wall actually breaking away. but in this case the studds them selves broke. Now i have talked to a good handfull of old time mechs. including my father and none of them or anyone they know has seen this before, i would just like to know if anyone here has ever had this happen? Thanks.
Ah....nope. Can't say I have ever heard of that in our type trucks. Now maybe a little sheetbox type car I could see the metal fatiguing and breaking off.
I guess anything is possible. Is the studs rusty looking? Maybe it got alot of moisture built up and just corroded itself to death?
I have never seen it, though I can guess how it happened. It was not tightened enough, so it went back and forth a thousand times and weakened the studs (sort of like bending a coat hanger multiple times). Finally, the last stud broke and the other came off too. You must have manual brakes to have it mounted directly to the firewall?
Fomoco, Ive got the power steering and power brakes on my 67.Pulled it all from a 77.My truck handles well, and stops on a dime. You will like the swap. moparnut
