I just finished repainting a bed for my truck using Dupont Urethane Enamel Paint. I have the 4x4 OFF Road Decals and pinstripes that I need to put on. Is there a procedure I need to follow or cleaning/prep work that I need to do or just wash the truck and stick tham on? How do you lay the two lined pinstripe tape on and get it straight? I may take it to the shop for that one. Thanks.
assuming you haven't waxed it or anything yet then yea just wash it and stick it on there. you prolly don't have any transfer tape and I've never tried this with regular masking tape but with transfer tape you put that over the top of the sticker and then put the tape and sticker on all together then peal the tape off that keeps the sticker all in the position it should be.
also you can use some water and dish soap to spray on the surface first, then put the sticker on, then you can udjust it to where you want it. and don't be stingy witht he soapy water spray it on heavy just make sure to squegee the sticker out afterward, you can use a driver's license to do that easy enough.
as far as the stripes go if you have any straight magnetic strips you can put that on first and then use it to guide the stripes.
I never apply graphics to fresh paint. I try and wait for at least 2 weeks before laying vinyl down. That said here is what i do.
I prep the surface with a commercial liquid. If you are making your own application fluid i use 2 cups of water, 1/2 cup of alcohol, and a drop or two of dish soap. (Go easy on the soap).
For an inexpirienced installer i recommend the wet application method which allows you to reposition the graphic if it goes on crooked.
Remove the backing paper. Spray both the graphic and the surface with the fluid. Position the graphic where you want it and squeegie it to stick it down and squeeze out the fluid. When you have squeegied it down properly, slowly remove the transfer tape. I usually hit a new graphic with a little heat to set it well. I use a heat gun ... but be careful .. you can bubble paint. A hair dryer is safer.
As for the pin stripes i will mark the surface of the vehicle with a stabilio pencil and follow the lines with the striping. It takes a little practice but is not hard. Dont apply stripes wet .. it just gets too messy. Just be slow and accurate.
Good luck! You can do it! KarenLynn @ Turn One Custom Graphics
