I already posted this question under a different section, I didn't realise ther was section for A/C. I have been searching for an old thread that addressed my prob. but havn't found one yet.
I just bought a 97 F-250 5.4L V8 (125000 mi) and the guy selling it told me the Air Compressor was going to need to be fixed. Now I am starting to think its going to cost me more than I expected and was hopeing someone else may have had to do the same repair. I don't want to let it go for too long for fear of the fan belt breaking and finding my self with bigger problems. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
Not really sure and I don't know how to tell. The thing is squeaking constantly and occasionally makes a nocking sound. The nocking sound (when it does occure) has no influence by haveing the a/c on or off and can occure when everything on the panel is turned off. The squeaking gets worse when the a/c is turned on. The wheel that the brelt rides over has an obvious woble to it as well, possible source of squeak? As far as being inside the truck the a/c would seem to working just fine. When I reach down and turn what I think is the clutch it makes a barely audible click and I can feel it more than anything, could that be the source of the nocking? When the truck does nock it sounds as if a part is going to come flying through the hood at any time.
A Ford dealership replaced the clutch and pully assembly for $312. It would look like an easy fix but I am not real well equiped with tools and am a believer in sticking to what I know. I will polish some more granite countertops to pay the bill, at least I know I won't mess that up.
