in-line fuel filter

Does anyone know where I can get a diagram of the engine on a 73 F-100 Ranger XLT, it has a v-8 360? I was wanting to install an inline fuel filter and I don't know where I would put it? Any help is appreciated.

put an inline filter between the tank and the fuel pump. that way it keeps trash from stopping up the fuel pump. it is not a bad idea to run 2 filters, one before the pump, one after the pump.

I'll begin by saying i have practically no automotive skill whatsoever. That said where is the fuel pump? Also will I have to do anything to keep fuel from pouring out of the lines when cut or is it vaccum or what? Thanks

Make sure you relieve any pressure in the line, before cutting it, by loosening and then replacing the gas cap, just before you cut the line. Have the filter at hand and ready to put in place as soon as you cut the line. Be careful not to get gas in your eyes. Make sure you don't let gas run down your arm and get in your arm pit. Really, really stings!

On my 360, the fuel pump has a built in fuel filter with a replaceable element.I believe the pump assembly was an AC/Delco #ACD-41124 ( $27.00) and just the filter element itself is a Fram # CG-20 for $2.24.

Get a Ford manual for your truck. There are CDROM manuals available at the FTE [link: motorhaven.autoanything.com|Online Store] they have fuel system diagrams in them as well as all kinds of info.

Welcome to FTE. There are 2 styles of fuel pump on the FE family of motors (360, 390, 428 and others). One has a filter on it and the other doesn't. If the pump has a filter it will have a screw on cannister on the bottom of the pump that almost looks like a mini oil filter. This is a cover and the fuel filter is inside it. If the pump doesn't have a filter on it then there is probably a filter at the inlet to the carb. Look for a steel line that runs up the front of the engine block and goes to the front of the carb. That is the fuel line. The pump will be at the bottom end of the line. If there is a filter at the inlet to the carb it will be a small (1 inch in diameter 1.5 inches long) metal can with a hex on it that screws into the inlet of the carb.
