ugh...expensive kingpins
Took it to the shop this morning.
Experiencing extreme steering pulls to either direction.
But not all the time. Just most of the time.
Also, no "return" after making a turn. The wheels would
stay in the direction they had just turned. Made for an
interesting drive, to say the least.
Diagnosis came back: Stuck/worn out kingpins,
$435 parts & labor and an additional (approx.) $70 machine shop fees.
But it will be done today. As opposed to 6 months of lazy weekends
had I elected to do this on my own.
Oh well, it's only money.

With balljoints there is a standard movement test (among others). Is there something similar for kingpins?? Polkat
Got it back from the shop a bit ago,
and it sure does ride nice again.
After talking to the mechanic, I'm extra glad I didn't
go at it myself. A crossthreaded caliper bolt required
a helicoil (thankfully I haven't needed to do brakes) and
one of the kingpins was apparently close to seizing.
Ah the joys of adopting previously abused trucks
Alls well that ends well, though. It came out nice.

oh, and the pivot arm bushings are in surprisingly good shape.
I did think about it, though.
