The controls for my cruise on the steering wheel of my '97 Explorer have snapped off and are hanging only by the wiring connections. My question is can I just super glue the controls back on to their plastic mounts or would that interfere with the air bag deployment? I'm sure it won't, but before I was going to do it my wife asked the question about the air bag and now I keep hearing that question in the back of my head!!!

It won't interfere... although I don't recommend supergluing it back in either... the switch is serviced separately from the air bag so either get a new one or find a used one.
I replaced mine a last month its simple an takes about 30 minutes.
1. Disconnect the battery and wait 5 minutes for the air bag system to disarm.
2. There are two round plugs on each side of the steering wheel. Pop them out with a flathead screwdriver.
3. Remove the two bolts use 1/4 in or 9mm socket (I Think?). This will allow you to remove the airbags.
4. Carefully remove the airbag and disconnect the sensor wire.
5. Remove the 4 screws from the 2 control switches, disconnect the control wires and remove the switches.
6. To install the new controls just reverse the removal process.
I purchased the control switches from www.rockauto.com for $35.00.
