86 ranger 2.3 EFI manual trans. NO check engine light (EMISS) when truck is started, book says EMISS lamp should light for 15-30 secs. on start. lamp is good. whre is this light sourced from?
chilton says 85 and newer have EMISS light, I pulled instrument cluster, has lamps in the sockets for NO OIL, EMISS, BRAKE, SEATBELT, lights. book also says 60,00 mile timer for the EMISS light has a reset above glove box, pulled box found device but no mechanical reset on it anywhere. HEEEELLLP!
My 87 does'nt have an "emmisions" light or a check engine light.
The owners manual sez this about the emiss light. "This light is used on certain vehicles to indicate when maintenance of emissions control devices is required."
I looked in my 87 Ford "electrical & vacuum troubleshooting manual." & theres no mention in it either for an Emmis light??
This is a calif. vehicle with EFI, how would it indicate a o2 failure without a EMISS light? it just passed smog. Original problem is temp guage indicates overheating when i'm on freeway, but if I pull over when temp. guage is pegged on hot and measure temp at 'stat housing with temp gun the temp is never higher than 187 degrees. changed out stat, flushed radiator, no change. wanted to see if maybe o2 sensor failed and running too rich. used scanner only got code 31
