ROUGH downshift

ROUGH downshift
My truck is a 2004 F-150 with 5.4L and 4-speed OD 2WD.
I was crusing in 4th gear doing about 50mph when I was going to pass a car. I stepped on the gas and the truck went "THUDD!" and then downshifted into 3rd. I mean it was the hardest and loudest sound I've ever heard this truck make. I tried again a few more times and it happens every time. Hit the gass and it feels like the tranny is falling out from under you. Its thudss real loud like you just ran over a male deer.
I dunno what it is but hopefully someone can help me out until the serivce techs open up again on Monday. Truck only has 9k miles on it also. Thx

I'll be taking it into Ford on Monday to see what they have to say.
Any other comments/info would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Oh, man, look I just left a 87 Gm 3/4 ton 4 speed manual. The only thing you are feeling is the overdrive band disengaging to down shift. Trust me with an auto you want to feel a shift. .
What freaked me out was the "vibration and or brake warp zone" that I read about here.
I would like to thank those who said "No Worries"
Ford 4R70w. you want to feel a shift as with any auto (clutch packs last longer)
How harsh is harsh for you? Remember THIS is a truck made to work

Is the 2004-2005 a 4r70w? If so, no wonder. I thought they they were changed in '04 to a new trans. However, if you are cruising that fast, I'm suprised if it would be either of the known problems since you are probably in OD. I'd be suprised if the OD disengagment would be that noticable since it has so little mechanical advantage on the drivetrain in these higher gears. For example, in a manual tranmission in high gear, backing out of the throttle completely while at speed causes a more gentle change in velocity than doing the same while in first gear.
FYI - The known downshift problems:
The 4R70W has two hard downshifts, 2-1 and 3-1. The 2-1 is supposed to be cushioned by a spring that pretty much just falls out. There is a TSB (01-13-7) but I wouldn't bother getting it fixed since the spring will just fall out again in the near future. Mine was 'fixed' 3 times and each time, it recurred by the time I got the truck home from the stealer.
The 3-1 is the nasty one. This happens most often when you either round corner (decelerate, turn, accelerate) or are driving in stop-and-go traffic. In any case, the easy way to reproduce this one is to start out stopped, gently accelerate up to about 17-18 mph, back completely out of the throttle, and let the truck slow to about 15 mph. tip-in to the throttle will now cause a bang that will sound like you just got rear-ended. This is a problem Ford acknowledges but will not fix for you. Much like all their other mistakes (plug blowouts, seat belt latches, cruise control switch, head gaskets, etc., etc.)
