4R75E delayed manual 1 downshift
At any (reasonable) speed, the transmission waits about 3 seconds from the time you put the shifter in "1" to the time that the transmission actually begins braking. during this time, the engine coasts down to idle, then the clutch kicks in and the engine goes from idle to 3,000+ rpm (depending on speed) in very short order and rather abruptly. it doesn't slam, it just gives an uncomfortable pause before engaging. this would be a progressively forced downshift sequence, starting by turning off OD, then moving to M2, then M1.
is this pause normal?
I wouldn't really care, except I can see myself using "1" going down steep grades with the camper, now that I have one.
I've had several cars and trucks with the 4r70w that did not wait like this to downshift, so to me it seems out of place.
at first I thought it was just waiting for a safe speed to downshift, but after trying it at a higher speed, it waits the same amount of time (roughly) then downshifts at a higher speed/rpm.
could this delay be from never being used for 150,000+ miles then being asked to work? feels rock solid aside from the above.
2006 expedition, 158,000 miles on the clock.
full fluid exchange performed at 109,600 in march of 2014. unknown history before that (looks like I'm about due for another transmission flush!)
