Replaced all 3 o2 sensors, still have check engine light
Reset the computer but still have a check engine light for Bad o2 sensor. Bank 1 if I remember correctly. Since I just replaced all 3 sensors, what else would you guys be checking next? BTW, this is on my 96 with a 302.
1. make sure the wiring and connectors going to the sensors are good.
2. You may have got a defective sensor.
3. the sensor is not out of tolerance, it really is detecting too much or too little gas in the exhaust, and your going to have to start trying to figure out why.
Make sure you reset the computer again, if it still comes on recheck for codes, if you are still getting an O2 code check the plugs for the sensors. Are they motorcraft sensors? If not go with them and that might fix the problem.
Computer has been reset several times. I changed these o2 sensors last summer but never got rid of the CE light. Now that we have sniffer test in NC, I need to figure out what else it can be, EGR, map sensor, etc. When I first put the new sensors in the CE light came right back on right away with the same code. I don't think I had any bad sensors to begin with, but I think that there is something else that is failing and calling for a new o2 sensor.
just because the code says that the sensor is out of tolerance, doesn't mean that the sensor is bad, it may really be detecting off the chart emmisions in the exhuast due to another problem.
If you read the post above, then you would know that I'm aware of that. But what else is causing it?
I looked for vacuum leaks today and didn't find any, and it's still calling for a o2 sensor. What else could be screwed up thats causing it to read a bad o2 sensor?
clogged cat, one or both sides of the engine running too lean or too rich, which could be a number of things. what is the exact description of the error code you are getting?
swap the sensor around to the other side and see if the prob follows. Might help eliminate if its the sensor or wiring. Also refit the old sensor and see if it goes away to determine if the new sensor is duff.
