Can you use the spray copper sealant on header gaskets? I had some Nitro-seals on and had to take the headers off to drop the tranny but I noticed that they were leaking a little. I wouldn't want to use tubed RTV but what about the spray stuff? Also, are the Nitro-seals reuseable?
Steve Christ's Big Block Ford manual show him using high temp rtv on the stock manifold logs, but I have never tried on headers. SCS Copper gaskets are reusable.
I wouldn't know why not. I used copper spray a gasket on SCE copper head gaskets for a different motor but I Haven't ran it yet. I have new copper header gaskets that I plan to spray as well and i will report how that works out.
I have re-used Nitroseal header gaskets a few times, but after about 3 installations they tend to need replacement. If they're leaking, they need to be replaced.
I took 330HD gaskets, modified to fit the headers (opened the hole larger) and used Red Hi-Temp RTV (Permatex) on both sides.
They held for over 16 years until I took them off last year to scrap the truck. The headers (alumicoat) were becoming swiss-cheese, but the RTV and gaskets held.
Where the exhaust met the RTV, it was still perfectly intact, it didn't burn or anything.
Wow, just realized I didn't answer ANY of your questions ...

There were only a couple leaking but I've already ordered some of those high speed copper gaskets. I'll try those and see which one does better. I'm going to try the spray copper sealant. When I pull the engine this fall, I'll see how that does.
