A few days ago my 1999 F150 4WD turned on the service engine soon light. The code was p1740 which indicates a problem with the converter locking clutch. Based on advice in a forum question, I took it to a dealer. They replaced a solenoid, which was the indicated failed part. Now they are saying that the PCM, which I'm guessing means control module, is bad, returning a code where no problem exists.
My questions are:
1. Where is the control module located?
2. What are the chances that the wiring connector to the transmission is bad?
3. The dealer wants $760 for a new control module. Has anyone ever replaced one with a used unit?
4. Where can I get a control module (new or used) without having to hock my bridgework?
