I have a 2002 F-250 Super Duty 4X4 triton V-10. Does anyone happen to know where the security control module is located? my keyless remote system does not work even after programming a new remote. The Ford dealership charged me an hour labor to diagnose the problem and they said it's the security control module which I just ordered. Thanks in advance.
The dealership installs security systems when the vehicle arrives (at least they used to back in the day when or trucks showed up). I don't know the variances between dealerships, but usually things are installed in the same general location. My security control module is located in the dash. Remove the lower cover on the dash under the steering wheel (four 1/4 turn fasteners that you can undo with your fingernail or a coin). Looking into the opening, look on the right side (opposite side from the fuse box). My unit is a little black box that's zip-tied to the dash bracket on the right side of the opening.
Just a FYI, I had the dealer replaced mine because they have to suck the info out of it and program the new one with the info they suck out of the bad one.
Hope this makes sence.
I was told it needed to be programed with all the info specific to your vehicle prior to installation. So for example, 2 door or 4, power door lock or not, power windows, etc. In the end, for me it was a bad instrument cluster that caused my remote door lock/unlock to not work, and kept my dome light on. I have an 02 F250 SD 4x4 PSD. I had an extra security module laying around till I "sold" it to a guy here on the forum. Too bad he didn't pay me
Wow, the guy didn't pay you? that sucks!! there's some dishonest people out there. Well, the dealership is certain the module is bad so I'll have them install it and program it. Thanks Colt for the post and help.
Thanks for the help and post Rotun, nice truck!! I bet that truck can handle anything. I don't have the keyless entry pad on the truck just the key remotes, I wonder if it really needs programming meaning the module or can I do it performing the key remote programming method?
Thank you, if replacing the module you will have to program the module as well as the remotes. The module needs to be told what type of electrical system it is hooked up to as many have different types of "grounding" for the door locks, interior light, etc. The install manual will tell you how to figure this out. What is the part # for the module? I might have the programming instructions for it on .pdf.
Well I couldn't find that part # but these might be the same instructions. Look for the VSS/RKE (Vehicle Security System/Remote Keyless Entry). I think this is for the newer systems but still might work for programming. If not you can try your dealer parts counter and ask real nice for the install/programming for your part #.
Thank you very much for taking the time to help me and thanks for the PDF files, I'll give it a shot, if it doesn't work I'll stop by the dealership and ask "nicely" for the programming instructions.
