Hello all, just thought I'd share my tale here... So, I like many was having problems with my parking brake, namely having to push the pedal to the floor and beyond to get them to do anything. Also, my Mom's '99 Explorer had just failed the **** retentive MA inspection because her parking brake was not functioning. The issue on my '99 Expy had been lingering and finally decided to do something about it. Upon pulling off the driver's side rear tire and poking around a bit, I noticed that the entire cable had rusted off and there was no longer any connection between the parking brake pedal and the brake assembly itself on the hub/wheel. So, I unbolted the nut that holds the "stabilizing" bracket and removed it and was able to remove the cable sheath from it's brackets on the frame rail and caliper bracket. Then I made the trip up to the dealership and $21 later I had a replacement cable. Only thing is the so called "stabilizing" bracket is no more. Now there is this funky U shaped pin dealy. So after about a half hour of looking at this thing and the available holes on the frame, body, caliper and just about everywhere's else, I decided to just slap the new cable on and see what I can see once everything is in place. Sure enough after I get everything else on, there are the two little holes for the U shaped pin deal to fit in which are at the 4 o'clock position on the bottom of one of the control arm mounts. I found a bolt and mounted the U shaped pin guide thing and put the wheel back on and yippie skippy I had working parking brakes again.
