Question Trash bag hook replacement

Yes, I know, but.....

Anybody replaced their trash bag hook with anything. Specifically, I'm wondering if there is anything aftermarket or anything homemade. What I'm trying to do is get something to mount my ARB switches in. The switches are kinda large and I want to put them in a replaceable panel. The smaller the better. A piece of diamond plate, plastic, whatever. I'm in Afghanistan again, so I can't just make one. If anybody has any ideas or suggestions I'd appreciate it. I want them some where on the dash, but I don't want to destroy a big, hard to replace panel.

If anybody's got a decent one that they made at home, I'd be willing to pay ya to make me one.

Thanks guys

I will keep an eye on this thread as I am not a real fan of the trash bag hook myself.
You watch your back over there and take care.

Yeah, I would just put them next to the ESOF switch, but I don't believe there is enough room next to it. I was also thinking about putting them under the little wallet / change / junk pocket thing, but I don't want to cut into that large panel. I'd like to do a black diamond plate piece for that trash bag hook so I can use it for the switches. That little hook is the most useless thing I've ever seen.

Just a thought. I put my Propane "arming" and "on/off" rocker switches to the right of the steering wheel on the dash bezel. I took the dash out and cut it with a Dremel tool. Looks like a factory job if I do say so myself. I can get a pic if you want.

I did that with all my light switches, but the ARB switches are a lot bigger. I put them on the left side of the wheel and it looks nice and factory. I just don't want to do a big hack and not like the way they are. Besides, I have to have the wife drop it off to get it done, so I have to be REAL specific and give pictures so the shop knows what I want. That's why I'd like to do a replacement panel for THE HOOK. If I get ahold of one of the SD's we have running around here, I may be able to do it, but they are few and far between.

Who's idea was that anyway? Nothing ever stays on it.

BFR - are the switches typical SPST/SPDT switches, or are they something fancy? If they're just trying to switch high-current DC, you could add a relay and go to much smaller switches. Just a thought...

I will post some pics this afternoon. My switches are probably the same size as your ARB's. They are about 2 1/4" long and 1" wide. Not the toggle type that you are probably thinking about. They came in a premounted 4"x2" piece of plastic and I did not want that big thing hanging below the dash, so I cut them out and used just the actual switch part.

Here are the pics of both sides of my steering wheel. On the left are the 6-position flip chip and switch for the projector lights in the headlights. On the right are the arming and on/off Propane switches.

I can't believe you don't have a 1/4 gallon trash bag hanging from that hook like your grandparents do off the cigarette lighter in the Grand Marquis!!!

Fordafied, that's them. Pretty much the exact same things. They look pretty good right there too. I figure I can probably put the front and rear switches there where you have them and put the compressor switch next to the ESOF.

Thanks, I'll probably do that. I still want to replace the trash bag hooky thingy.....whatever.

Right where you have your **** and projector switch is where I have the switches for the lights.

Thanks guys

I use them like a running light. The headlights come on with the normal headlight switch. To turn the projector lights on, I use the push button toggle. Just looks pretty cool with just the projectors on. They really help in foggy and light rain conditions. They also are wired to go off when the ignition is switched off so I don't have to worry about leaving them on.
Thanks guys for the compliments.

Hey here is one more request. Can someone get me a picture of the whole dash. Or at least from the drivers side to as far over as possible. Preferably on an 99 - 04. Just want to look at a few different locations.

One other thing to consider is how deep the switches will set back inside the dash. I more or less had to mount mine there due to they were approx 1" "deep". There were too many other braces and wires and other things behind the dash to put them in other places.
