Don't overlook the simple things. Take something heavy like a brick, or get someone in the cab to hold the gas pedal to the floor. This will take into account carpeting and anything else in the linkage.

While you have the pedal to the floor(with the engine off of course), take the aircleaner off, and take a flashlight and look down the carb throat to make sure the butterflies in the bottom are pretty much straight up and down.

It sounds like some of the speedos have stops and some of them don't. I played with two speedos out of 1981 and 1984 F-series, and one has a stop at 85 and the other doesn't.

Interesting that...

Hate to point this out. WHO CARES?

Woth the price of gas currently, who'd want to really do more with one of these trucks than accelerate gently from a stop-light or sign to the posted speed limit.

Granted, some burn up daddy or mommy's credit card at the pump, but for those of us that work for a living, and pay our own repair bills, this isn't feasible unless you have an unlimited cash supply, let alone the safetey issues of driving that way on the street.

I'm not a nag, but I don't appreciate someone raising my insurance rates and the gas price due to pure and simple ignrorance and stupidity!

Give your head a shake!

Speed limits are there to follow, those that want to call me a whiner can compare my 9 yrs as a professional driver hauling a-style converter trains with 3 trailers behind me thru the Canadian Rockies without an accident, as well as various other jobs. I've also run east to west coast, hauled 2 53'ft trailers behind me, and run the states as well, all tractor trailer combo, no accidents, and not a mar on my licences this far, and I'm 32 yrs old. My side-lines also hold a motorcycle mechanic's license, and love sport bikes, but I left my speed runs to the drag strip and road-race track(have taken the course for both).

In past history, I've also run 1/4 mile cars. I'm not new to the world of speed, and I appreciate it as much as anyone, but for those of you have a need to endager the rest of us, put it on the track, or QUIT driving!

I don't say that lightly.

Hit my Tractor/trailer combination at your supposed max of 85 MPH and you'll die, and I MIGHT live....one thing for sure, you're about to leave one family in sorrow....

Once again, give your head a shake!

Odds are, the tractor lives, and I've seen the driver not do so well, more than one time.

I hit 6 wild horses on one run, with 3 32 ft trailers behind me, a-style converters.

Wasn't easy pulling it off to the side, had to call in for some guns to kill off some of the horses, rig was written off, and I was amongst the luckiest men alive at that point, and that was at 90KPH, barely above 55mph.

Call me a whiner if you want. Or you can just call me plain lucky!

For those of you who think it's ok, go ahead, just don't do it on the road I'm travelling down. Your stupidity could cost ME MY LIFE!

sure sounds like a nag.

Do you honestly think you're the first to point out to people that speeding on roads is bad? Did the first poster in this thread EVER say it was on a road?

I've spent alot of time in the desert racing a bronco at well over 85.These trucks will do it easily and safely.

Who gives a crap if you drive heavy trucks? Your not the only one here with a CDL.

well, lets have him clarify then.

Shadetreemec,

what track are you racing the truck at? Or were you, in fact talking about going over 85 on public roads.

also, Let us know what you have done to your truck suspension wise. What tires are you running?

Oldhalftons, I assume you have done some maintenance and/or upgrades to your suspension in order run safely at those speeds.
If he has not, and is trying to run those speeds on the public road, are you still willing to put yourself and your loved ones on the same road with him?

I wouldn't.

Blow a tire at 85 plus in a heavy truck and there is a pretty good chance you are going to loose control and kill someone. Unfortunately, it's usually not the careless driver that dies.

and although we will definitely NOT be the first to point out that speeding is bad... I really don't want to be the one who helps or encourages a careless driver go FASTER!.

So, in summary: The truck should be able to do more than 85, but you shouldn't. I know I'm scared to do fifty in my truck, but hopefuly yours is in better shape.

Thank goodness it's friday.

some times you just have to let it go on the street I also have a 9 second 1969 chevelle that I race at the local track but I still like to go fast on the open freeway while driving so if you don't like to speed more power to ya but stay out of my way and stick to the right lane.

And as far as the CDL dispute I have a brother in law with a CDL and he can't drive a LICK so if you think you are going to impress anyone with that than think again.

We are not here to argue who is in the right or wrong we are here to help a fellow ford lover out so if you can't stay to the topic at hand I say shut up. Dose anyone here second that?

Ok everyone it's starting to get a little heated in here. So lets take a break and keep it civil please.

The guy asked for some advice about his truck and that is what we are all here for. So lets help him out if possible on his problem.

Please though lets not have any personal attacks on anyone for what they post. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and that should be respected.

Thanks

FordF150Fixer; you can go to a speed shop or to a auto parts shop and get a rev limiter or if it is newer you can buy a chip for the computer to limit speed.

WELL RR4E I dont plan on drag racing my truck down the 4 lane highway. I want to take it to the drag strip out here by where I live, but if it woung go faster then 85mph there is no use in there. I go that fast just to se if some thing I tryed worked.
As for mommy and daddy's credit I HAVE NEVER SEEN IT! I have a JOB. I have payed for every thing I put on or IN the truck. I payed or the gas that gets me to work I payed for the motor rebuild withe the Edelbrock Intake the Flowtech headers, and the MSD ignition. I payed for the Thans rebuild withe the B&M converter and the transgo Reprograming Kit and I did most of the work!

Any way there is not any type of limiter in the truck also what engine do you have in the truck so older stright sixes stop making power at like 3500 rpm you could be winding the engine at its max speed to the point of valve float.
Meanbluovl, I have a 302, The engine loses power about 4000-4500 and third gear in my AOD sthe speed at 85mph and 3000rpm.

Alright green submarine it stops at 3000rpm, my rear gear is 3.25, I have custom exhaust (Made and payed by me) with flowthech headers and flowmaser original 40"s muffilers. so cats ain't Cloged. the engine seems to be pulling and on flat level road the tach will move up one or two hundred rpm's. Oh the tire size is 235/75/15. need any more info just ask.

Whit the transgo kit in the trany 2nd shifts, with the gas mashed, at 70 and 3rd takes it to 85mph at 3000rpm and 2000rmp in 4th.
