Ok guys, i decided to do the CCV mod today. ALOT easier then i planned. took off my 46637 and tube(s), the connector that mounts to the engine that holds the two pipes together and took off the elbow. i bought red 1/2'' ID all purpose hose from LOWE's, i think 15 feet or so. all i did was superglue the hose in the elbow, i cut the hose on a miter angle so that it would be less restrictive, then pushed it up to the elbow. then i placed the elbow back on the nipple on the valve cover, then ran the hose. i ran it on top of the bottom C of the frame rail, back to the end of the gas tank. i ran it up along the top corner of the tank near the driveshaft. then i angled it down after the rearmost tank mount. here's pic of the install. if they are too big/or too large, i can change them to links.
cut the restrictive object in the air intake, then found a tight-fitting wire nut. filled the nut with superglue, then coat it with super glue, push it in the hole flush and then glued around it to seal it off.
this is the velocity of the smoke coming out at idle. i had started the truck up and let it idle for about 3 minutes and the smoke was still cool. it is somewhat noticeable when the smoke comes out of the bottom and spreads across the ground. may take a 20-oz bottle and cut some holes near the top to vent and then run the hose into that. total cost of all this- $14

no it was extra thick 20-45 second hold glue (black) that i got from my hobby shop. i used it to glue tires to wheels on my RC trucks. i would recommend superglue because it gets up inside the two hoses and forms a really good bond.
Just wondering, what are the benifits to doing this?
All that oily mist is going through your intercooler and into the engine. Going into the engine isn't so bad, but the buildup inside of the intercooler is. The CCV stops that in it's tracks.

Is there an easy way to clean all this buildup out of the intercooler? I installed a 6637 filter today and I had quite abit of buildup in the hose. CCV mod will be done this weekend, but how do I clean all this gunk out of the intercooler?

I don't know of any easy way. I still haven't pulled mine out yet either to clean it. I would imagine that the only way to truly clean it out is to lay it face down on the ground and fill it up with a strong detergent and water solution and agitate it. Rinse out and repeat as necessary until cleaned out.
i would think that the new oil-free air entering the intercooler would eventually push out the oil as some of the vapor will attach to the air molecules. might take a while but you know youre not allowing any oily air into the intercooler. kind of like quitting smoking. the intercooler is the lungs, the oil is the smoke/tar. you quit smoking, so you cut off the smoke going into the lungs, but it takes a long time/if not a lifetime to get the lungs back to normal.
I was told by a non-FTE sponsor that the best way to clean the intercooler out is to take it to a radiator shop and have them boil it out like a radiator. Then, after it is clean, have them check it for leaks and fix any leaks found.
It will cost a few bucks but seems worthwhile. I may do that eventually, but unless things change, I may have to sell my truck....
Remove intercooler and add 2 quarts of MEK (any home depot). Do a kind of touretts like shaking motion moving the intercooler so that the MEK gets all around. Pour it out into a proper container. Refill intercooler with Tolulene or more MEK and do it again. We do this on the Buicks monthly and it works fine. Gets all the gunk out.
ahhh... this mod... i made the mistake of turning the "doghouse" around... gotta redo it tommorow as the o-ring seals between it and the valve cover are leaking.. she smelled like burning oil all the while i was towing the 5ver last week...! aggghhhh..!
Methel Ethel Ketone. A kind of super solvent, thinner etc...
Used to use this stuff in the Navy for cleaning aircraft and painting etc. Pretty potent stuff we dont even use it anymore. Very hazardous.
