We have an outside heat and air unit. The house has been feeling kinda damped so i checked the condensate drain. I cleaned it out a little but i noticed that the unit was running and cold air was blowing out the condensate drain? Does this sound normal? Or is sumthin wrong? Anybody know?
Take the cover off where the condensate line goes in. Try to take a coat hanger (or similar) and break up what ever is in there. Also you can pour some bleach in the pan to help free it up.
And while you're at it you may as well shut the breaker off and grab a water hose and spray the fins on the condensing section from the inside out to get rid of any dirt or grass that has been sucked into the fins.
I'm gonna take a wild butt guess here and say you are talking about a PTAC (package terminal air conditioning unit) unit. It's like a big window a/c except it sits completely outside and it has duct work hooked to it.
Am I correct?
OK, if cold air is coming out of you drain then it shouldn't, obviously you know this. Check the drain line if there is one, if it has a trap and a cleanout for the trap then open the cleanout and pour water in the trap. If it has no trap anywhere then find a place to put one and put it in and make sure it is full of water after you put it in. The water in the trap will not allow air to blow out of the condensate drain and it will also not allow mice or insects to crawl into your a/c unit through the drain.
