Post Do I need to change my IAC??

When I start my truck up cold, often it will start but wont idle up and stay running. If I tap on the gas it will usually act right.this is getting to be more and more frequent.A couple of time I had to drive it"two footed" until it warmed up and ran right.I have a stock 1997 4.6 with a k&n air filter (filter only).new fuel filter. The check engine light has NOT come on.(yet) I'm ready to change a part if that is the point it has gotten to.....I'm all ears...any takers??

Sounds like it's due for one. You may try cleaning it. Spray carb cleaner into the two holes and let it soak a bit. then dump it out and spray around a little bit more. Reinstall it and see how it acts. It may last for awhile that way.

Is it worth the extra 40 bills to get it at ford? I did get all new brake drums and rotors at advance and have had no problems (yet) saved about the same price differance.

I'd use the aftermarket one. Also, if I spent the time to take it off and what have you, I'd just put a new one in.

I just changed mine. Its too much trouble to change to just clean it. I cleaned mine & it didn't last a wk. Buy a new one & do it once.

Aftermarket means one of two things:

1) Exact same part as Ford's, except in a Standard or other branded box - look carefully, it may even have the Ford logo and part # on it somewhere.
2) An IMPROVED design over Ford's.

Either way, being 1/2 the price, that's a good thing.

I have yet to see any aftermarket emissions/engine piece being of lesser quality than the original Ford piece, and since the IAC's are going all over the place, I think you might be better off with aftermarket.

I agree, I bought a Wells neutral safety switch for my 96 Windstar and it had the Ford part number stamped in the body that had been poorly scratched out. 2 years old and no troubles yet
