When I bought my F100, the previous owner said that the truck originally had manual brakes, but he put in a boosted master cylinder. Braking has always been weak - I have to push the pedal almost to the floor to stop the truck, and it won't lock the brakes at all. I've bled the system multiple times with no improvement.
My thinking is that I need to change out the calipers/drum system with those from a power brake equipped truck. Does that seem correct, or is the problem elsewhere?
Is the booster getting the correct amount of vacuum? Are the rear brakes bled correctly by pulling the pin on the proportioning valve while bleeding then pushing back in after done?
Does your master cylinder maintain full fluid levels? If not, and your cylinders at each wheel are not leaking, then your master may be leaking fluid into the power brake booster.
this happened to me. New booster, all the difference in the world.

use this link for brake diagnositic, refer to the portion for diagnosing your brakes. Let us know what you found as the problem. It will help others with the same problem.
Mil1ion, I am sorry that the link did not work, and honestly respect your Ford expertise as I've seen your post on other threads. As you are aware I am obviously involved in sharing my knowledge and experience's in sharing my knowledge in rebuilding these classic and well built Ford's.
staysbroken, it is difficult to diagnose your brake problem if you do not reply to others post. My question to you is what brake items have you replaced and adjusted on your brake system?
Thanks for all the good info so far. I haven't had a chance to do any work on it as of yet, but should have most of the day today to mess with it. And as for the parts I've replaced, I personally havent replaced anything (was all done by the previous owner), so I'm not entirely sure what's original and what's not. I did have to lengthen some of the brake lines and relocate the proportioning valve when I did my 460 swap though, but it didn't seem to have any affect on the problem.
The master cyl does maintain a consistent level, so I don't think the system is leaking anywhere. And when I bled the brakes the last time, I didn't know what that pin was on the master cylinder, so that will be the first thing I try today.
Thanks guys

Just standard headers, heddman if I remember correctly. Once I bled the system though, braking was no better or worse than before, so I really don't think this affected it.
66f14evr suggested that I check the brake pedal itself, as there were 2 different pedals depending on whether the truck came with manual or power brakes. Sure enough, it was marked MAN BRK. I'm going to find a pedal from a p/b truck and see if that fixes the problem.
