390 bore

Hi,

I recently aquired a 391 FT except that the block is a 390 reman and the tag on the block indicates that the engine was bored out .040.

My question is, is this too much? I know that going too far on some engines creates a heat issue. Does anyone know if .040 is safe?

Thanks,
Jay

Jay, I think you will be fine at .040 over. The 390 is a fairly sturdy block, some of the 391s are even beffier. We bore engines to .060 over everyday at my work. No problems. I don't think you have to worry. Ya wanna wake that thing up a bit ? DF
