The main things I like about our era or as you said mid 90's till now, are advances we have made in Aerospace, medicine, and man--I LOVE 90's rock. Pearl Jam, Nirvana,Soundgarden, Alice in Chains..........My era (born in 78) definitely knows how to rock!
If I was back home, then 1970s and 1980s, actually anytime after world war II and civil car (which started in 1991).
But since I'm living in the USA and I'm US citized, then 1960s and early 1970s, simply because of muscle cars.
50-60's, so I could buy every piece of dirt in California I could stretch to get hold of. Probably would own Montana and Idaho by now. Seriously, I grew up in So Cal in the 50's-60's. Doesn't get much better than that.
50s laid back and innocent? At the time Korea, Suez, Hungary, Indochina, Senator Joe, duck and cover, and Little Rock, among others, were probably things that caused some to lose some sleep.
1870-1910. War of northern aggression over, not in WWI yet. Could give the Admiral and Rockefellers a run for their money, maybe, if I could get off my lazy butt.
1920s. Was a time of change - enough new and old to suit most tastes. Had planes, radios, trains, and horse calvary. Electricity and indoor toilets in the city. Booze was not legal, but marijuana was. Still plenty of geezers around who heard Lincoln. Easy choice of colors in cars. No Vegas, but there was Havana.
1950's!!! I am without a doubt a 50's guy (even though I was born in 1985. Go ahead and laugh). I love rock and roll to death (as well as rockabilly/psychobilly which I'm jsut getting into), and nothing sounds as good as some vinyl spinning on a turntable. I grease up my hair with Vitalis, Vaseline, and Brylcreem, am planning on building an old school hot rod, and my favorite shirt is my pink and black bowling shirt. My bike is (was...stolen ) a '56 Schwinn. There just isn't any doubt, the 50's are where it's at for me. The 40's would be sweet too.
Find a working timemachine and do alittle "most excellent adventuring" into a number of eras. Just make sure all my shots are up and have my "univeral communicator" ready as most would not understand me nor I,them. Even with English as languages change so much over the centuries.
Then go forward, if possible.
As for the 20th Century? Maybe the late 40s or the 50s. Or before the Depression. I am not sure if I want to relive the 60s again as I went through that as a teen. All eras had their faults as well as virtues.
