got a little problem..........truck drives fine, temp gauge in the middle went a little past the middle this weekend (it was 99F in Jersey) made my 160 mile trip fine.....when I got home and turned it off it boiled over. Just put a new radiator cap on it last week for the same thing happening, was OK for a week; now this.
Recently did an engine swap....new waterpump, thermostat, hoses. I`m on another cap (13lbs. that`s what it`s calling for)
Any ideas or experiences? why this happens, could I have just gotten a bad cap?
as long as the truck is moving you are getting the cooling you need...two things 1 you may have air trapped some where in the cooling system causing the exspansion when shutting down..2 have the cap tested at a rad shop..and a question is the radiator sized correctly for the new engine? and lastly what colant blend are you using?
Assuming that you got the correct water pump that you requested for your new engine application and it is working properly I would vote for the air bubble possibility as mentioned by Jack01. You can try "burping" the rad hoses and then gradually fill the rad as the engine is running and approaching normal operating temperatures. I'm sure that there are other clever ways of purging air from your system - I just can't remember them right now. What temp is your T-Stat? The engine that you swapped to - is it a fresh rebuild or a previously used and enjoyed motor? Do you know that history at all of the new engine?
I guess I could ask a bunch more questions about the fan clutch and all. However, lets close it for now and see what your progress is to this point. I'm pretty sure others with more wisdom than I will post their suggestions as well.
thermostat. You might have it jammed up with RTV you sealed the gasket with (mistake to do). Take it off and check it. I had the same problem. Car ran fine, shut it off, it would boil over. had RTV jammin up the stat. Cleaned it, slapped it back together, minus the RTV, never had a problem again for the next 3 years.
