Attention Newbies: Old threads

Most newbies sign up to get specific answers they need in the repair or restoration of their trucks. This causes all too many repeated questions like: "How do identify my engine?"or "What size tires fit?"
I don't know about anyone else, but I kind of get tired of reading the same questions and answers over and over again.

In order to help answer some of the basic questions for each era of trucks, I would like to see a new topic started in each Confrence area called (for example) "61-66 FAQ" that cannot be posted in by the general public. This new heading can have the commonly asked questions copied by the administrator so that a new owner of a truck will be able to find the info they are searching for a little easier.
I know someone will tell me to use the search feature, but I am refering to new users or the constant browsers who won't find the search feature all too helpful. Most of the questions I refer to are easily found for someone who visits this site regularly but the newbies need help.

If you agree or disagree, post anyway. This will give Ken the info he needs to make a decision.

I think the idea of a FAQ for each forum would be helpfull.

But really, every sincere post deserves an answer. Someone is always willing to help out.

I agree with big ford man, helping the newbies is always, I may not have known the answer before I read the same post before.

Maybe I was typing more than thinking (I usually do).
An example of what I am talking about can be seen if you read the threads below. All of them are from newbies who know nothing about the vin # breakdown and could not find it anywhere else.
With all of the basic info posted in the FAQ section under 61-66, most people can find the answer they are looking for in a hurry.
Just trying to make helping the newbies easier. I remember how it was when I first started using this board back in November.

krosati, if you feel you have enough correct documentation for a FAQ in the 61-66 Forum, why not put it all in a thread.

Then when someone asks for that particular info, you or anyone else could post a link to that FAQ thread.

krosati,

As I noted, I am short on time. Who's gonna maintain it? Remember, it can't be done for just one, but ALL forum sections.

You might become a Club FTE member, you get a FTE web site as part of your membership and Post all that great information on it.

Just a thought,

John

Cool idea on paper but here is something to think about. Someone new may have the answer the newbie needs. They also may not have read every post on the site. By that newbie posting their question that new person may have an answer some of us old timers have never heard of or thought of that maybe a better way of doing it. This gets it out in the open for everyone to use. Does this make sence to anyone? I just wrote it and am confused. lol, think I'll go have a beer now

I am a newbie, and have been ploughing through all the threads for a couple of months. I have no specific questions just yet, but have to admit that the search feature of this forum is as confusing as the search feature on all the others I go to. Having a list of FAQs somewhere easily accessible would be a plus to a newbie.

What if some of us made up technical articles for some of the frequently asked questions. Things like trouble shooting a rough idle, or engine replacement, etc.

Personally I've always wanted to put together a site for identification of all types of ford engines. I've seen a few sites along these lines, but none have been really comprehensive. I could handle the web work, but would need help gathering info. Anyone think this is a good idea?
