i have been hanging around this site for a few months now, and it has helped me alot. still beating a few questions thru the keyboard but otherwise a quick search and my question has already been anwsered by someone else a long time ago.
as i cruise the forums nightly i see again and again the same questions asked over and over. I know searching can be a pain sometimes, but it does bring results.
mostly i see new users asking these questions, myself guilty at the start too. maybe there could be a way that a new user can be directed to searching instead of asking questions. i really dont know how this can be done, anyone have any ideas ???
When I first registered, I actually did do a search, but it came back with no result!?! So I posted a question, and someone pointed me in the right direction.
Sure, sometimes I get lazy and ask a dumb question, but no one has ever replied "DO A SEARCH!" Everyone who has answered my dumb questions have been very polite with their answers, so for that I want to thank you all.
I've been here for over 1 year, and have seen the same question being asked MANY times. (your age, job, road rage, driving, etc.)
I was thinking about putting the most FAQ's in a sticky in all the forums (each forum contaning its own FAQ's)
Just a though, we'd have TONS of stickys though, so it's probably not even worth it.
I posted a question in the user feedback forum about tech questoins in the GC forum. Any ideas how to stop this? I havent checked the thread yet, i forgot about it. Ill check it now i guess.
Perhaps, in regards to the new people, just calling it FAQ would make it most recognizable. Discovering how a new forum works is half the fun. Having a question go unanswered is frustrating when you are new.
It's good to dig up an old thread every now and then. There are many new users who log onto FTE every day. They weren't here for the original post, someone makes another, and one of the other "new" members has an even better answer than was posted in the original. It could happen, we don't really know the background and history of the "new" members until they've been here for a few months and become regularly active. I think it's good to ask questions, either old or new. We can either post a reply, or add a link to the original post for referance. As long as people are being helped, that's all that really matters.
