I recently installed a Jackson Racing C6 in my truck with an Art Carr custom built converter (2500rpm). Yesterday I took the truck out for a test drive. It took quite a while for my tranny temp to come up and then once it did it just kept on going. I was in a panic about it and pegged 250 right as I got home (sensor in the pan). I have a large tranny cooler in the bed of the truck with a cooling fan so I immediately went back there to check on it. The fan was spinning but I was getting no heat out of it. I felt the pan and burned my hand, leading me to believe the guage was accurate. This morning I pulled off the cooling lines and found the one to the rear of the tranny had only a small amount of fluid in it. The line to the front was bone dry. I stared the truck with the lines disconnected and watched them with the center hump removed. I got nothing. I tried running through the gears, revving, etc. Double checked my fluid level and it was fine. Anybody here have ideas on what might be wrong? I'd assume if it was a pump issue the tranny wouldn't work at all but it drives just fine.
I pulled apart a spare tranny pump and found that there's a check ball in there. I didn't see any spring in the pump I had though. Does it need a spring? I tested with compressed air and the check ball rolls back to prevent any back flow. Only other thing we could come up with is if possibly the pump gasket is blocking the flow but there's only one way to find out. So I'm about to drop the tranny. I'll let you know what I find. Post back about that spring if you get a chance. Thanks Jared.
Do a double check on your fittings first- if you adapted it up to 3/8" lines, one of the adaptors may not have the center knocked out of it.
I don't have my c6 anymore, so I can't pull that apart to see if there was a spring in there, and it was more than two years ago when I rebuilt it. The only other thing I can think of is that the pump may not have been clocked right, IIRC, you can put them in upside down, but that would block all the holes and you would have nothing.
On edit: I found an exploded view, and it looks like the gasket could be put in wrong, and only partially block the pump outlets. http://raceabilene.com/kelly/hotrod/...rans/c6exp.gif
Well I popped the pump out of the new tranny and the gasket is in there correctly. This pump DOES have a spring in the check ball for the cooling line but when I put air to the main shaft it does not open so that is my problem. I'm really tempted to just swap in the pump out of my old tranny with no spring as I know it worked fine. I just can't figure out if there's any disadvantage to not having this spring in place.
Btw, checked my fittings and that's all good. Just this pesky check valve now. Thanks for the exploded view.
