well, i fiannaly got the t case back in my 88, after having the shift arms tigged backtogether. i got new tires on it, only 31's, but they did pretty good today, as it rained all day, so we went on some no maintence roads, and only in 2wd, no stuck. there 31x10.5 bfg m/ts. i finally got my cd player in it, and i got a front bumper on it, and the start of a brush guard. i got new u joints all the way around, but still trying to pinpoint a clunk in the drive train. hopefully gonna get mirrors on it tommorow, just got to go pick them up. got my exhaust put all the way back to gether, minus 2 manifold bolts that i mannaged to lose, gotta go get them tommorow. still got to figure out where to mount my spare, gonna put a roll bar in the flatbed, gonna mount it to the cross tubes for the the bed and mount my twin cb whips, and some lights up there. i got some pics, but i left the camera at the shop, so itll have to wait till tommorow. just gotta get sum bumperstickers now, "Chevy recovery vehicle"
Well them 8.8's when they get some wear on them they will tend to clunk when shifting, and now that i think about it a couple other trucks we have on the farm that have an auto and the 8.8 will clunk when putting it into gear. Either that or its the transmission.
no it's not BS they actually use them in NASCAR and other racing applications that still use the 9" what it is, is a solid spacer of the proper thickness to provide the proper preload but it means you have to measure it precisely and get that spacer the exact length. Just buy a crush collar it's much easier, biggest thing to make sure of is use a new nut on the pinion they are lock nuts and are supposed to be used once, and only once it's when someone takes them off to change a seal, and doesn't replace them that you have a problem with them backing off.
