stupid question

hey guys...picked up a 94 bronco and for the life of me - or the dealers - cant figure out how to open the rear tailgate the handle on the inside feels as if its connected but pulling up nothing happens..the keyway on the outside of the tailgate brings the window up and down ok but does nothing for opening it up...is there a switch - button - something im missing or would it just be broken...thanks in advance

The plastic clip holding the rod to the handle probably broke. The plastic panel on the inside is near impossible to remove with the tailgate closed, so the process of getting the door open is a pain. The first thing is to get the top center of the panel popped out, some years you have to pull the handle first. Then feel around until you can find the linkage rod, and give it a pull. The door should open then, and you should be able to pull the panel the rest of the way to fix it.
