Question turbo noise?

My first turbo diesel ('05 F250, 1500 mi.), but not my first turbocharged car ('00 Saab). I expect to hear the turbo spooling up upon accelation, but wonder if the noise I am hearing is normal. Seems exceptionally high pitched and whistle-like. I don't recall hearing it on other trucks around, and there are a few in the area.

Yep, thats why its TURBO diesel. I cant believe someone would complain about the turbo being too loud...i would actually like to find a way to make my turbo louder.

Welcome to Ford Truck Enthusiasts! (ha beat you Timmy ) post any problems you may have in the future about your truck here. you are most likely going to come here asking for help. (see my sig )

to your question-
yes. at the rate that little impeller spins, it makes a very high pitched noise. even louder if you let off the throttle suddenly. get used to it, because thats the way its supposed to be. i like being not able to hear the engine over the turbo whine. plus your little saab isnt producing much boost at all (4-7psi maybe) and these are spitting out around 22 psi stock i believe.

While they're both turbocharged engines, a Saab and a PSD are lightyears apart. The Saabs are light-pressure turbos - 8psi max boost. The 2005 6.0 will turn 27psi max in stock configuration. Lots more pressure, far bigger impeller, etc., all of which adds up to that wonderful turbo whistle of the PSD. Enjoy it!

That was a nice warm and fuzzy welcome. I'm sure he feels right at home.

Contrary to the belief of some peters deal...it is also quite common for people to post their good truck experiences.

Welcome, again, to FTE.

Thumbs up

Thanks for the helpful replies.

I am leaving behind a '95 F150 for this new F250. I have nothing but good feelings about Fords (in spite of some of the posts I read), plus they are the '05 Ironman triathlon sponsor (my hobby), so I am a fan.

I will happily listen to my turbo whirr!

You must be thinking of Iron City, a fine Pittsburg brew.
Having completed Ironman USA last month, it might be a while until my next. Going back to the woods to remember what a mountain bike feels like. Can get pretty deep in with the new 4wd ride and find the good trails
