Where does the fender welting go? Inside on the inner fenders to firewall? I bought the truck with a lot of stuff the PO had and welting was one of them.
The only place would be between the rear fenders and the bed-sides of Flareside Box. But I don't recall any being welting used on our Slicks. . . . . So I would tend to think you're alright. The onus for stupidity falls on the "PO" who bought welting for a truck that doesn't really use it in the 1st place, or so it would seem, huh?

Stupidity, let me tell you about stupidity. Bless this guy for trying but what a headache I have now.
He bought floor pans.
Then..................................
SCREWED them in place over the original floorpan
Imagine my surprize when I removed the carpeting. Oh well. Just one more thing on my baby I call "2 years going on five".
Welcome to the real world of "I'm Gonna Resto' that bad boy myself " stories. They just get better as time goes along.
I figure it like this, if it was a broadway show I'd be spending $100 a copy for tickets and probably I wouldn't laugh as hard, SOOooo. . life goes on, and on and. . . .
The welting(flat stock with a rolled bead on one edge) was only used on the toolbox/bed mounting area....the welting however doesnt get painted body color...
The strips at the rear of the fenders and aprons....this is kinda hard to explain with fenders on and all, there are a total of 3 pieces per side...theres a foam piece, about 1'X 1/2 inch which is glued to rear of fender inside so to seal the area between it and the cab. Its about 18-20 inches long or so. As to the fender aprons, the stuff used is thinner rubber ...probably inner tube material its about 1/8" thick and is stapled to the aprons at the rear. They go on the wheel side of the apron. The piece mentiouned above is same kinda material, but cut to fit around things there....it goes on at the rear of the fender to apron mounting flange area, also stapled on...they act as good crap traps for stuff on the topside, but you can get your finger back there, theres a small drain like area the rubber flap fits up against, just push it down from the topside, or pull back from the bottomside and all kinda dirt and crud will fall away...if you are doing this from inside the wheelwell...beware the dirt....glasses are a good idea just in case....
And lastly, there is an anti rattle strap at the lower rear edge of the aprons on 65-6 rigs...simple lil piece of old tire carcass...about 2X4" and held to each part by one bolt...
