Does anybody here do any truck pulls? I have a couple of freinds with 7.3's that want to start doing it at the local fairs and was just wondering if their are tricks to help do good besides the basic int, exh, & chip.
i did my first pull at the local fair only pulled 270 not bad for the first pull
i messed up i started out at half throttle then about half way down then i nailed to the floor i had it in 4 low 2nd gear then when my rpm maxed out at 3000 rpm
i forgot to shift it to drive i was looking at my rpm guage watching the needle at 3000rpm but my brain never told me to shift ( stupid brain )
next time i will leave it in drive with od off and i will get into the throttle more quicker to got the mometume up before the sled starts to drag u down
but hell it was fun
Most places will not let 2wd pull. If you truck is an auto as long as you not putting down too much power you'll be ok. If it's a stick you better stay with 2nd 4wd low or you'll be putting in a clutch real soon. I use 3rd low and know of some Dodges useing 4th and 5th low. The problem I'm having is not enough fuel at mid track to keep the rpm's up. Some new injectors and I'll try 4th.
Oh ya man hows your pulling. Are you satisfied so far? 2wd is a great class to get in to if they allow it. Most places do. All you got to worry about is your back end. Cheapest way to get in to pulling.

Thanks Josh
I assume you live in MN, what county, I will come over, if its reasonable close.
I have a pulling truck and go to pulls every weekend. I pull my 99 auto when we are close to home and have won and placed second several times.
I see alot of trucks break from being pulled in drive! When the weight gets to them and the tranny shifts from 3rd to 2nd they break. Usually the drive shaft or the rearend. I saw one truck twist the center section of the rearend straight up when it down shifted.
I pull mine in 2nd and it works great. It's easy to start out and just roll into the throttle in about 50' then just watch the track and find you a good path with no ruts.
Ilive in Arlington which is in Sibley county. We just had the fair but they didnt have the truck pulls this year. Where are you from?
One hour north of the Twin Cities. Right in the 4 corners of Isant, Chisago, Kanabec, and Pine county. and all 4 fairs are with in a half hour of me but pine is the only one with a pull.
Stack a TON of leaf springs in the rear, bolt them all together. the stiffer the suspention, the less axle wrap and hop. most places will not allow ladder bars in street legal classes.
