Does anyone know if the door for the garage door opener on the overhead console can be replaced without having to buy a whole new console? Mine broke. If so, I would love sources.
I have a 2002 F250 CC.
Yes. It can be. It's been done twice on my truck. The original one broke during the winter time when I was trying to activate my garage door opener. The second one broke right after the guy installed it. He left a little plastic piece in there and it misaligned the door. Broke after about a week. The third door installed with the same problem. I didn't mess with it this time though. Took it right back to the shop to have it replaced, all the tech did was pull down the cluster and take out the little plastic piece that was being the Pain in the Behind. Whammo, works like a champ!
Sorry for the long response, just wanted to let you know a bit of a background on my problem. YES, the Ford dealership can order JUST that door.
After my dealer told me $75. for the door, I did a fix on my door. I drilled and screwed the clip in place, filled the gap at the clip with clear bathroom sealer. has worked for 6 mo, so far.
wow, i have one on order, i guess i better not go get it! ill be just fine with it if i get 4 more bills in my pocket! i have the door, but one of the four little 'fingers' that hold it on, three are there and one of them is broke. wow.
heh , both of mine little doors broke a year or so ago. I just drilled and tapped them into place. I never use them anyways. I knew they would be pricey and just decided to replace if I have to when I trade.
Thanks for all of the feedback, when my dealer told me about $80, I assumed that he had to order the entire console.... I guees Ford is trying to make these poorly made parts a profit center.....
Mine just broke last night...
The rear door...Pushed the little catch in and it just snapped off in my hand...So...
I tried to remove the door and snap...snap...BOTH hinges broke......What a POS setup... Got my wifes fingernail superglue and glued it all back together......so far so good.....Not going to touch it again.....I'm thinking twice about using the front one for my sunglasses.....
Just as a curiosity though....
How DOES that console come out???
I did not see any screws or fasteners holding that thing up there.....
Does it just snap in somehow????
Just so you know; u can buy the entire console housing for +- $ 125 at the dealership that includes both of the doors. It does not include the actual LED readout. If ANYONE has any more ideas about how to fix that crappy door situation so that it will last; I will be most appreciative. I like being able to use it; but it will not stay fixed.
hlspeed,
Don't take it to my dealership to get it fixed. I had to have it replaced and my salesmen thought he would be helpful and install it for me, he couldn't figure out how to get it in and looked at the sunglasses door for a clue. The D.A. breaks the sunglasses door in the process and has to order a whole new console! When it came in he had the service dept do it for him and ate the back charge. I keep the GDO in the sunglass door since then.
