Auto Hubs ?

Hello,I have those darn stock hubs one of the hubs seems to be extremely hard to turn. Are they easy to rebuild? Would it be easier to get a new one? Thanks for any Help.

Thanks AL

You sure it's not a binding brake caliper? That will make a wheel stiff too. Besides a binding bearing would tend to make you hear a rumbling noise on a smooth road.

I do not hear any noises, it does not pull to the side, wheel seems to spin free. I just noticed it this morning put it in 4x4 high and when I took it our the front hub did not want to unlock so I tried to turn it to lock and then auto did not turn all the way took me a little to get them unlocked.

Thanks Al

Try spraying some WD-40 in the groove around the ****. The O-ring may be dry and causing excessive drag. As for not unlocking in auto, I have taken mine apart and relubed the internals. Not real complicated. Just take apart and reverse the procedure. No problems with mine since this maintenance. There are parts in the locking hub that are turning around the axle shaft, when unlocked, that need lubrication or they will fail.

Probably need new locking hubs- Warns were about $120 for my truck. Get the manual lockers.More reliable.

I agree go to manual hubs, and plug off the vacumn line t the steering knuckle I have determined this vac that activates the hubs is quite probably the main culprit in the sealed unit bearing going out. I appears that when you apply vac to the hubs it also sucks the grease out of hte bearings through the rear seal until they are dry then no more bearings (I noticed this after replacing my right bearing then 5000 miles later had to take it apart to work on something else, and it already had a bunch of grease pulled through the seal and laying around in there unhooked those lines 10,000 miles later and no more grease coming out of the bearing, and if you can keep the grease inside the bearings maybe they will last longer)

I changed mine out to the Warn hubs with the brass center i can actually tell a difference because I think my drivers side was draging some how it soes not pull to the left any more. At least I will know when they are locked or not. Good Luck AL
