Hi,
I have a '77 Early Bronco with a C4 3 Speed. The Shift Shaft is leaking. I have heard of a o-ring and possibly a lip seal that can cause this problem. If so, can I replace the seal or seals without removing the trans and do I have to remove the pan/valve body? Also, where can I get these parts without buying a complete overhaul kit? Any info on this subject would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Sam
I did mine quite sometime ago, and I remember having to drop the valve body in order to get to the retaining nut that holds the selector shaft in place. Once you get to the retaining nut, just slide the shifter selector shaft out of the case and you will be able to remove the seal. Just remember to torque the valve body bolts to specs. on reinstallation.
The shifter seal was sold seperately at the time I did mine. I purchased mine from napa along with a trans filter kit. It still should be available by itself . good luck
