6637 mod

The 6637 mod is a great mod,but i have one question.I have done this mod to my truck recently. When i accelarate around 50 to 60 mph,i hear a wooshing sound. Is that normal,am i correct in asuming that its extra air coming out of the filter or is it the turbo rubing on the housing. It almost sounds like the turbo is rubbing the housing along with the wooshing sound.
Thanks to all that reply

I'm calling that whooshing sound "Darth Vader Breathing". ;-)))

All of 'em do it. I sorta' like it, as a matter of fact.

The squealing, I haven't heard.

As I get older, though, I'm not hearing more and more things! ;-)))

I just completed the mod a couple weeks ago. I haven't heard any woshing sound. I might be able to hear the turbo whine a little more but not much. Sounds like you might have something else going on - not sure what though.

I did mine two weeks ago and the sound almost sounds like the belt is squealing, yes it's normal.

Your truck has always done it with the tuning upgrade, if it is a 99.5 to 2003 7.3. It's called turbo surge and it's very bad for the turbo. The fix is an ATS ported housing and a "wicked wheel" turbo impeller. The reason other people don't hear it is they don't have a chip or programmer. The early 99's don't have this problem nearly as bad, because the impeller is a different design.

I did this mod last weekend and I have only heard the "Whoosh" sound. It is louder when the truck shifts into OD than at any other time.

I just did the 6637 last weekend on my early 99 and do not have the surge / stall issues yet. My HPOP is very weak and I don't get nearly enough fuel to the cyl's. I may end up having issues when I get my HPOP back up around 3000psi. Right now in PERF setting I drop to around 1400 psi...

I will be getting my 6637 tomorrow. Been waiting for over a month. No chips or tuners, so hopefully none of this will be a problem for me yet.

there are no dumb questions.. only questions you don't have answers for... here is a question for you... do you have stock exhaust....? here's another one... do you have any gauges...? if the answer to either of these questions is no... and ESPECIALLY if the answer to BOTH questions is NO..... you MUST get them on your truck... if you have a chip or a tuner that is dumping more fuel to give you more power, which is what they do, then you can run your egts way up past the max safe level without even knowing it... do this too many time and you'll have a dead psd...

yes i do have gauges and no i dont have a 4 inch exhaust.I never push the truck that much, the chip was only to add some power to pass.I dont race the truck. On my other truck i had the 4 inch exhaust and 110 hp chip with the exhaust brake, with gauges.I never got it even close to 1100 egt.I was only doing the filter mod to see if i would get better fuel milage.
