Is the diverter door moved manually or by vacuum? Is it moving when you throw the lever? Mine makes a clunk when it switches all the way from hot to cold.

You might try this to check the diverter door.
Put a thermometer in the a/c outlet with the unit set to heat and take the temperature. Then without changing from hot to cool put the a/c on and see if the temperature drops quickly.
It shouldn't be getting A/C air if the diverter door is flipped to get air from the heater core.

I believed that was the problem until he posted that he reversed the hoses and had the same affect. Read 7 posts above mine^^^^^

Pull your heater core or go to an auto parts store and look at a new one. The metal lines from the core are side by side on the top, but one of the lines goes down the side and into the bottom of the core. Been there and screwed it up the first time. I still got heat but darn little. Reversed the hoses and it will run me out of the truck.

I have the core out of my truck already because it started leaking. Both tubes on the top look identical. The flow must go down half the core, then back up the other half either direction the flow goes. I don't know what I'm missing when you guys explain it.

Back to the heater hoses, I can switch the heater hose, but that would be putting them on wrong. I am trying to get heat, not prove a heat transfer therom. Now if I don't have them on wrong now I will switch them.

Just for the record, here is how this all began. The truck pumped heat out like a woodstove burning stuffed animals then within a week it started to come and go. I replaced the t-stat first, then a second. Then the thought the core was plugged so I put in a new one. Had the exhaust and coolant sniffed for a bad head gasket, all good. Pulled the cover and checked the blend door (cable driven), fully opens and fully closes, then replaced the Water pump. during all this the cap, 2 other t-stats and multiple fill procedures have been tried.

Now the other doors that actuate the defrost, floor and panel are all vacuum. Any chance one of these is not working or is half stuck. How can I check?? Is there an easy way to see if a pencil or something else has dropped through any of the ducts jambing a door?

Do these Trucks have any sort of air filter that could screw up the flow????

Alrighty. Here is what I did. I went out myself and switched the hoses on my truck. No heat whatsoever. And it sounds like someones garguling water. Anyone else able to back me up on this one?

So if you run the heater and it's putting out no heat at all, if you leave the blend door on heat and turn on the AC does the air coming out cool down?

Enquiring minds want to know !

So which is the correct way for the lines???? I have the inboard side going to the water pump outlet. I can switch them but why if they are on "correct" now??????????? Any chance Ford in there great wisdom used 2 different heater cores with the inlets switched????

The truck gets some heat. If it is a 50* day you won't be cold. The output is currently 110*, should be closer to 140-160*.

yes the AC works not sure on the output temp. I will check it tomorrow.
